This is a PCI card, and is used in desktop computers - for Macs this means that it is only compatible with PowerMac computers previous to the PowerMac G5 Dual Core, since only these PowerMacs have PCI slots (please see the compatibility listing below for the list of compatible PowerMacs for this product).

The card is both a FireWire and USB 2.0 controller. It provides external FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ports for the use of only one expansion slot.

Please be aware that a connection like FireWire or USB which is added via an expansion card will not provide the same level of electrical power as a built in connection. This means that devices such as portable hard drives or optical drives may require additional power by a mains adaptor.

The Sonnet Tango PCI provides 2 external and 1 internal FireWire ports, and 2 external and 1 internal USB 2.0 ports. Like all Sonnet cards this has excellent compatibility with a very wide range of PowerMacs (see below for a full list).

NB: FireWire requires OS9. USB 2.0 requires OS 10.2.8 with this card, although it will function as USB 1 under OS8.6 and above.
