This is a PCI card, and is used in desktop computers - for Macs this means that it is only compatible with PowerMac computers previous to the PowerMac G5 Dual Core, since only these PowerMacs have PCI slots (please see the compatibility listing below for the list of compatible PowerMacs for this product).

The card is a FireWire controller, it provides 6pin FireWire ports. FireWire has a theoretical maximum transfer rate of 400Mb/s.

NB: FireWire requires at least OS9

Please be aware that a connection like FireWire or USB which is added via an expansion card will not provide the same level of electrical power as a built in connection. This means that devices such as portable hard drives or optical drives may require additional power by a mains adaptor.

The Sonnet Allegro FireWire 400 PCI card provides 3 external and 1 internal 6 pin FireWire ports. Like all Sonnet cards, it has excellent compatibility with a wide range of PowerMacs (please see below for a full list).
