This is a PCI card, and is used in desktop computers - for Macs this means that it is only compatible with PowerMac computers previous to the PowerMac G5 Dual Core, since only these PowerMacs have PCI slots (please see the compatibility listing below for the list of compatible PowerMacs for this product).

The card is a USB 2.0 controller, it provides type A USB 2 ports - these are identical to, and fully backward compatible with, type A USB 1 ports.

Please be aware that a connection like FireWire or USB which is added via an expansion card will not provide the same level of electrical power as a built in connection. This means that devices such as portable hard drives or optical drives may require additional power by a mains adaptor.

The Sonnet Allegro USB 2.0 PCI card provides 4 external and 1 internal USB 2.0 ports. It is compatible with all PowerMac from the G3 "Blue & White" upwards (please see below for a full list).

NB: This card requires OS 10.2.8 to function as a USB 2.0 card, although it will work as USB 1 under OS 8.6 or later.
