Many computer components are very sensitive to static damage, and it is very important to earth your body before working inside your Mac. This anti static wrist band makes this easy.

Simply wear the adjustable wrist band and attach the crocodile clip to unpainted, earthed metal - for a desktop machine the easiest way to do this is to leave the mains power cable plugged in but turned off at the wall and attach the crocodile clip to an unpainted piece of metal in your machine.
