This is a PCI-Express card, which is the expansion card used in Apple Workstations from the PowerMac G5 Dual-Core onwards. These cards are only compatible with PCI-Express enabled computers, and will not work in older PCI or PCI-X based systems.

The card is a FireWire controller, it provides 6pin FireWire ports. FireWire has a theoretical maximum transfer rate of 400Mb/s.

Please be aware that a connection like FireWire or USB which is added via an expansion card will not provide the same level of electrical power as a built in connection. This means that devices such as portable hard drives or optical drives may require additional power by a mains adaptor.

This Sonnet Allegro Express FireWire 400 PCI-E card allows you to add two additional 400Mb/s FireWire ports to your Mac workstation.
