This Macally enclosure is for 2.5" SATA hard drives, it will take any SATA 9.5mm (height) 2.5" hard drive. Please note that this device powers from the FireWire or USB port and does not have an external power supply. This means that this device will only work with Macs with built-in FireWire or USB 2.0 - an added card will not provide enough power.

This enclosure has FireWire and USB 2.0 connectivity. The FireWire is 6 pin FireWire 400, it can be used with 9 pin FireWire 800, but will require a 9 pin to 6 pin FireWire cable (not included).

This enclosure allows you to create an external hard drive by fitting a standard SATA laptop internal hard drive. It can be used to create an external hard drive from a drive removed from a laptop or Mac mini.

NB: 2.5in SATA drives were introduced by Apple with the switch to Intel. Older PowerPC G4 laptops and Mac minis use IDE drives and need an IDE enclosure to take them, such as the Macally PHR-250CC.
