This cable adaptor allows you to access a 2.5in SATA hard drive or SSD (typically one removed from an Apple laptop or Mac mini) from another Mac with USB 2 or USB 3. It is a cheaper alternative to a hard drive enclosure and is useful if you are only going to want to access a the drive once (eg to clone an old drive to a new one) or if you want to access multiple drives without having to fit each one into an enclosure.
