MacBook Pro M1

Brand new in 2020 with the MacBook Pro M1 13", the switch to the ARM based architecture has been a major success in terms of performance and, especially, efficiency (so battery life). Its maximum RAM option of 16GB is extremely low for a Pro machine, though certainly adequate for many workflows, in 2020 at least.

These machines are not upgradeable in any way after purchase (so buy it with 16GB of RAM!), though they have fast Thunderbolt and USB connectivity that allows extremely quick external storage to be used.
