This is a PCI card, and is used in desktop computers - for Macs this means that it is only compatible with PowerMac computers previous to the PowerMac G5 Dual Core, since only these PowerMacs have PCI slots (please see the compatibility listing below for the list of compatible PowerMacs for this product).

The card is a Serial ATA (SATA) controller card. It allows you to control SATA hard drives in a PowerMac that would not otherwise be able to support them.

The Sonnet Tempo PCI SATA controller is an excellent controller for SATA hard drives operating at 1.5Gb/s. It is compatible with any PowerMac with a PCI slot and will work with MacOS 8.0 and above. It comes with the cables needed to connect one SATA drive, if you need to connect more drives please see the Sonnet SATA cable kit.

NB: on pre-G3 machines, we do not recommend attempting to control drives larger than 120GB with this card, due to the slow bus speed of these PowerMacs.
